Several other SALTers have posted "Day in the life" entries, and it seemed like an interesting idea, so here is mine:
6am: My alarm clock rings. I roll out from underneath my mosquito net, take it down, pull up the blanket that I didn't use, and turn off my overhead fan. Then I head to my adjoining bathroom to take a shower.
6.30am: I head downstairs for breakfast with the whole family. I boil water for my morning cup of coffee and let it brew while we eat. Breakfast usually consists of rice, boiled greens (a standard of any Vietnamese meal), and some sort of meat that was left over from last night's dinner.
7am: I head upstairs to finish getting ready for either school or work.
7.15 - 7.30am: If I'm going to school I leave around quarter after 7, if I'm going to work I leave around 7.30. I grab my helmet, hop on my bike, and head out the front gate.
8am: I arrive at school or work.
11.30am: Vietnamese class ends, and Brent and I get our bikes out of the parking area and ride to work for lunch. And on the days I'm working, my coworkers head to the cafeteria to pick up our food and I lay out the grass mat and spread newspaper on it at 11.30. Usually 4 or 5 of us sit on the floor to eat our lunch.
12.30 - 1pm: At this point everything shuts down, the lights are turned off, and everyone takes their afternoon nap! This is seriously the best part of the day sometimes.
1.30 - 1.45pm: Nap-time is over.
5pm: The work day ends. I shut off my computer, grab my helmet, and head home through the rush hour traffic.
6pm: I arrive home from work, usually exhausted and sweaty. I head to my bedroom to shower. I change into comfortable clothes and either read in my room or head downstairs to help with dinner.
7pm: Dinner with the family, usually consisting of... RICE and most often fish and boiled greens, but sometimes pork or chicken as well.
7.30pm: Dish duty sometimes falls to me or else whoever didn't help to make dinner.
8pm: I work on homework in my room, watch TV, write some emails, or read. At this point most of my family members are in their bedrooms either doing homework or watching TV.
9.30pm: By this time things have quieted down and I've fallen asleep with either a novel or my Vietnamese textbook in hand. Hoping to catch enough hours of uninterrupted sleep to get up and do it all again the next day!
